David Schoffman
BFA, Rhode Island School of Design
David Schoffman, artist, writer, polemicist and provocateur has been passing his very special wind at the Brentwood Art Center for over two decades.
Throughout his backbreaking BAC tenure, David has guided, coached, coerced and cajoled countless teenagers into the nation’s finest art schools. With brazen pedagogical infidelity David has spread his artistic misdirection with stints at the Paris College of Art, the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, CSSSA, LACMA, PS Arts, Ryman Arts and New Roads High School. And if that weren’t enough, his charms have also been enjoyed by students and colleagues at CalArts, UCLA, Jao Tung University in Shanghai, the Unsiversitad Oriente in Santiago de Cuba and Pace University in the capacity of Visiting Artist and Guest Lecturer. Among his favorite teaching commitments is his role as a consultant to the art education consultancy ARTLINK. In that capacity he takes part in an exciting two-week travel course in Paris.
Though probably undeserving, Schoffman has been the recipient of a number of grants and awards that only seem to dim his self-esteem. These include a UC Berkeley Fulbright-Hays Projects Abroad: Institute on China, a Surdna Arts Fellowship, a residency at the Blue Mountain Center in Mountain Lake, New York, a Sharon Lund Disney Teaching Artist Award and most unlikely of all, in 2002 he was named the Mattel Arts Teacher of the Year of Southern California.
His latest piece of mischief is his leadership role in the international artists’ collective The Plausible Deniability Project™ (PDP™). Though obscure and mostly ineffectual, PDP™’s boutique project is the production of the highly regarded podcast “Timmy Black Presents: The Lives of Contemporary Artists” (TLOCA ) which can be found on just about any podcast platform you can think of.
David sells bright pink TLOCA t-shirts from the trunk of his car.
