Botanical illustration’s long history dates back to a time before photography -- as humans sought to document and categorize what a plant, insect, or animal looked like for someone in a different location. Today, even though it may be easier to take a photo on a cell phone, botanical artists create images that reveal delicate details that photographs can not.

Join illustrator and artist Maddie Edgar for this course focused on drawing fungi and mushrooms from observation. Working in colored pencils, students focus on refining their work while blending, scumbling, and shape blocking. Students continue to explore use of color, value, intensity, contrast, positive negative space and composition, as they move their drawings to the next level.

Prerequisite: Botanical Illustration (beginning level)
