Hi, I’m Seya Hūg. I grew up in Switzerland and moved to Los Angeles when I was 18 to chase a dream—acting, of all things. Somewhere along the way, clay stole the spotlight.

It all started when a college roommate convinced me to take a wheel-throwing class to knock out an art credit. I agreed, reluctantly. I had no idea that one class would completely change my life. Twelve years later, I’m still at the wheel, more in love with ceramics than ever.

These days, my work focuses on ceramic furniture and lighting—pieces that live somewhere between sculpture and function. My style leans minimal and modern, but there’s always a nod to antiquity in the forms. I’m especially inspired by Japanese aesthetics, probably thanks to the time I spent in Japan as a kid while my dad was becoming a legend in the country as a professional kickboxer.

I believe ceramics should feel both grounding and playful—just like the process itself. I’m excited to share that with you in class. Let’s get our hands dirty.
