Developing Creativity is a short class designed for those who wish to explore their creativity and develop abilities and techniques leading to enhanced visual expression and personal imagery. Students learn to use a variety of media such as charcoal, oil and chalk pastel, aquarelle crayons, ink & watercolor, and mixed media. A series of exercises develop the free flow of self-expression; exercises include automatic drawing, free association, drawing images from guided visualizations, finding your inner power animal, and paintings from music.
Each class session includes slide lectures on artists whose work is related to the topic. For example Pollock and Masson are discussed in the session on automatic drawing; Magritte, Ernst, de Chirico and Chagall in relationship to guided imagery. Includes discussion of Blake, Redon and Klee in the context of personal visions; Kandinsky's abstract visual language and music.
Includes: slide lectures, discussions and critiques. No previous experience necessary.
Location: This is an in-person class taking place at the new BAC campus located in Santa Monica at
1625 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA. LINK TO MAP.
Transportation and Parking: Centrally located for easy access from all over Los Angeles County, BAC is only a 5-minute walk from the E Line (Expo) Metro Rail station exit off of 17th/SMC. The Center has a small parking lot located right in front of the buildings entrance. If parking is unavailable in the lot there is 2, 3 and 9-hour metered street parking in the area.
