Exploring Painting (In-Person)

In this course, students explore painting using works by master artists and their own personal photographs as inspiration. Through hands-on exercises, discussion, and critique, students are introduced to a range of painting techniques. Each week students select images by Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, or any other master they would like to recreate. Students can also use their own favorite photo of a landscape, scene, or person as reference. Course covers fundamentals of art, including the use of color, contrast, composition, and scale. Also covers brush handling and use of painting materials. All levels are welcome.

Location: This is an in-person class taking place at the new BAC campus located in Santa Monica at

1625 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA. LINK TO MAP.

Transportation and Parking: Centrally located for easy access from all over Los Angeles County, BAC is only a 5-minute walk from the E Line (Expo) Metro Rail station exit off of 17th/SMC. The Center has a small parking lot located right in front of the buildings entrance. If parking is unavailable in the lot there is 2, 3 and 9-hour metered street parking in the area.
