Instructor: Timothy Kitz
This class is designed for beginning through intermediate watercolor students and painters seeking to develop and refresh their skills with the watercolor medium.
Overview: The course is structured around an immersive approach to the fundamentals of watercolor painting. It is designed to guide students through the painting process and provide an understanding of the materials and tools, the techniques in Brushwork Rendering and theory of Color and Values in watercolor painting, as well as exposure to formal aesthetics with the goal of motivating students to develop the skills necessary to express their individual “voice”.
This course will allow a degree of freedom of exploration and experimentation but places equal demands on proficiency of execution. We will explore techniques through still life, landscape, architectural, and figurative subjects. The class format consists of studio work with examples, short lectures, demonstrations, and individual critiques. Practice external to the class will be encouraged and independent activities will be coordinated with the studio work.
