Judith Curtis, Celebration of Life, June 1

Late last month Judith Curtis, one of BAC’s longtime community members, passed away.

Her family will be holding a Celebration of Life on June 1 at the Santa Monica Buddhist Temple.

Judith Started drawing and painting at five years old and never stopped. She received her Masters of Fine Arts Degree from UCLA, studied further at Pierce College, the Art Academy of Los Angeles, and Brentwood Art Center.

While still in college, Judith designed and originated the Paper Dress and was featured in Time, Life, Look, Vogue, Mademoiselle, Women’s Wear Daily. She worked for over 30 years as a Costume Designer for movies and television, dressed many Hollywood stars for the red carpet, and even created clothes for the Barbie toy line.

In addition to those accomplishments Curtis also taught at UCLA, passing down her knowledge to the next generation of costume designers and fashion trendsetters. Through it all Judith never stopped painting, and had a loyal following of patrons for her stylish portraits and animal paintings - wild cats being a longtime favorite subject.
